A young adventurer from the village of West Harbor has grown up with a piece of a strange silver shard embedded in their past. When the shard draws the attention of something ancient and dangerous, the trail leads to Neverwinter and beyond — to a conspiracy connecting githyanki raiders, a shadowy organisation called the Luskans, and a King of Shadows who was defeated long ago but not destroyed.

Neverwinter Nights 2 is a role-playing game built on the Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 ruleset, developed by Obsidian Entertainment as the sequel to BioWare's original. The player builds a character from the full D&D 3.5 class and race options, recruits a party of companions each with their own personalities and questlines, and works through a main campaign set in and around the city of Neverwinter. Mid-campaign, the player acquires a keep that can be upgraded, managed and defended. Combat runs in real-time with pause, allowing the player to queue actions, cast spells and position the party. Three expansion campaigns are included: Mask of the Betrayer follows a different protagonist through the afterlife-adjacent planes of Rashemen dealing with a spirit-eating curse; Storm of Zehir is a sandbox-style adventure across the Sword Coast with a full party of player-created characters; Mysteries of Westgate is a noir murder mystery in the crime-ridden port city of Westgate. A Dungeon Master client and toolset allow players to build and run custom adventures. The Enhanced Edition by Aspyr adds controller support, refined camera controls, Steam Workshop and cross-platform multiplayer.
