Kidnapped by a wizard who wants your soul. Escape, rebuild your party and unravel the secret of your bloodline.

The wizard Irenicus has had you imprisoned in his stronghold for a long time, and whatever he has been doing to you has left marks. You escape — barely — into the city of Athkatla, in the nation of Amn. Irenicus is still out there. He still wants something from you that has to do with what you are. And there is an entire continent between you and the answers.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn was BioWare's 2000 sequel to Baldur's Gate, and is considered by many to be the apex of the Infinity Engine CRPG format — a sprawling, densely written role-playing game in which a fully customisable player character leads a party of up to six through the city of Athkatla, the Underdark, the Elven city of Suldanessellar and beyond. The game operates on real-time-with-pause combat using Second Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rules, and contains hundreds of hours of quests, character interactions, companion storylines and moral choices. Jon Irenicus, voiced by David Warner, remains one of the most praised antagonists in RPG history. The Enhanced Edition by Beamdog adds widescreen and high-resolution support, five new recruitable party members with personal questlines, cross-platform multiplayer, and the full Throne of Bhaal expansion plus the new Black Pits II arena. The sequel Baldur's Gate 3 was released by Larian Studios in 2023.
