Splatsville is the city of chaos — a sun-scorched desert settlement built on the aftermath of the last great Splatfest, when Team Chaos won and the world tilted toward disorder. The Inklings and Octolings who live here have adapted. So has the combat.

Splatoon 3 is a team-based third-person ink shooter where two teams of four compete to cover more of the stage in their colour than the opponent. The core Turf War mode is quick, frantic and always visually spectacular — ink flies everywhere, players can transform into squid or octopus form to swim through their own colour at speed, and the environment functions as both weapon and obstacle. Ranked modes add objectives beyond pure coverage: Splat Zones (hold specific areas), Tower Control (ride a moving tower to the goal), Rainmaker (carry a charged weapon to the opponent's stand) and Clam Blitz (collect clams and deposit them in the enemy basket). Salmon Run co-op pits four players against waves of Salmonid enemies in a cooperative horde mode. The single-player Return of the Mammalians campaign follows Agent 3 through Alterna, a strange subterranean world with a mystery at its centre. The Expansion Pass adds Inkopolis, restoring the original game's plaza as a hub, and Side Order — a roguelite single-player campaign following Agent 8 up a thirty-floor white spire in a world of enforced order. Two years of seasonal free content updates added weapons, stages and modes before regular updates concluded in September 2024.
