From the creator of Braid and The Witness. Over a thousand puzzles. Four worlds colliding. Ten years in the making.

A realm of curious magic, dangerous contraptions and vicious monsters. Four worlds, each governed by its own rules and inhabited by its own cast of characters. A queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard and a talking boat. Each has their own story. Each is working, without knowing it, toward the same convergence.

Order of the Sinking Star is the third game directed by Jonathan Blow, ten years in development following The Witness. It is a massive puzzle adventure built around over a thousand hand-crafted, interconnected puzzles that introduce dozens of distinct mechanics across four separate worlds, before those worlds begin to merge and their mechanics intertwine in new combinations. Early puzzles operate on a 2D plane, but as the game progresses they expand into 3D space. Each world has its own visual identity, rules and playable protagonist whose abilities complement the others. The game was built using Jai, a new programming language developed by Thekla as a replacement for C++, and a new engine constructed entirely in-house — both of which will be released as open-source projects after the game launches. Puzzle mechanics were developed in collaboration with some of the most respected puzzle designers working today, including Patrick Traynor (Patrick's Parabox), Marc ten Bosch (Miegakure) and Alan Hazelden, among others. The game was announced at The Game Awards on December 11, 2025.
