A crew of small bean-shaped astronauts is aboard a spaceship somewhere in space. Most of them are crewmates trying to complete maintenance tasks and get home. One or more of them are impostors — identical in appearance — whose goal is to kill all the crewmates before anyone figures out who they are.

Among Us is an online social deduction game for four to fifteen players. Crewmates complete tasks around the ship to fill a shared progress bar; impostors sabotage systems, kill crewmates and dispose of bodies in vents to avoid discovery. When a body is found, the crew holds an emergency meeting: everyone argues, accuses and defends themselves before voting someone off the ship. The game's entire tension is social. The tasks are simple; the deception, accusation and counter-accusation are the game. Released in 2018 to almost no attention, Among Us became one of the most played games in the world in the summer of 2020 when Twitch streamers discovered it, reaching over 500 million downloads across all platforms and temporarily displacing Minecraft as the most watched game on the platform. Innersloth, a studio of three people at launch, cancelled a planned sequel to focus on updating the original. New maps, roles and cosmetics have been added continuously since the viral moment. Cross-platform play connects all platforms.
